WHAT TO EXPECT
Initial consultation
At your initial appointment, new patients will need to complete registration details. Please remember to bring any previous scans, X-rays, or other investigation results with you. Upon arrival, you will complete a registration form and be provided with a copy of our patient contract to read and sign. A full medical history will then be taken by your consultant, and an examination will usually be performed. You will be invited to change in privacy, and verbal consent will always be obtained before any examination. A chaperone is consistently available, and your husband or partner may also be present if you wish. After the examination, you can change back in privacy before the consultation resumes in the consultation room, where the findings will be discussed.
Further investigations
Where further investigations are indicated, the reasons will be clearly explained, and appropriate arrangements made for a follow-up appointment once these investigations have been performed. If a diagnosis is reached and treatment is required, you will be informed of the diagnosis and the aims of the proposed treatment. Any alternative management options will also be thoroughly discussed, and written information will be provided. For any operative procedures, a further dedicated consultation will be organised specifically for obtaining your informed consent.
